5.3.1 Species records

To enter, edit or delete species records open the species tab in the plot viewIcon. In case there are already species assigned to the current plot, the tab shows them along with their cover and with the layer they belong to. You can add a species using the green button in the navigation bar. Delete species using the red bin symbol. Edit a species record by tapping on the taxon name, which opens the species record dialogue.

In the species record dialogue, you can add any species that is listed in the active species list. If you did not import this lookup check out the species lookups section. The same applies to the lookups for cover scales and cover codes. The species records dialogue has the following fields:

Genus* Pick the latin name of the genus. Double-tap on the field to open a pick list of available genus names (requires a species lookup) and enter letters to restrict the choice. If you enter a letter and no genus shows up in the pick list there is no genus name with this letter. Make sure to enter a valid name or synonym from the species lookup.
Species* Pick the rest of the name except for the author citation. To fill in this field you need a valid genus entry. Double-tap on the field to open a list of available species names and enter letters to restrict the choice. If you enter a letter and no species shows up in the pick list there is no associated species name (for the genus given). Make sure to enter a valid name or synonym from the species lookup.
Layer* Pick a layer (stratum). Layers are defined project-wise in the respective profile.
Quantity* Pick a quantity. Cover scales and cover codes are defined project-wise (see cover lookups).
Vitality Free entry.
Sociability Free entry.
Reference The species author. The field is automatically filled in after selecting the species (based on the species lookup).
Custom Free entry. Any additional information.

5.3.2 If a species is missing in the species lookup

If a species is missing in your lookups you should edit the CSV lookup table in a text editor or spreadsheet program and (re-)import it. The section about lookups provides further detail about this procedure. If CSV table editing is not possible you can use the "Add species to lookup" dialogue as an emergency option. This dialogue can be reached from the menu and adds species to a local database that can not be exported as such. However, the respective species will be accessible for record entry and they are properly exported along with projects. The following fields are available:

Genus Latin name of the genus like Cocos in Cocos nucifera
Species The rest of the name except for the author citation. This field usually takes the latin specific epithet like nucifera in Cocos nucifera but it may also contain intraspecific epithets and connecting terms denoting the rank like subsp. mexicana in Fagus grandifolia subsp. mexicana. Also, terms indicating the width of species concepts like "s.str." or "s.l." and other abbreviations like "agg." go here.
Author Authors of the name concerned like L. in Cocos nucifera L..
Sec. Reference to the flora used or to a voucher specimen. This reference specifies the taxonomic concept ("taxon view").
