The project deals with patterns and the development of bio-diversity of time in floodplains in a variety of scales. The focus lies on the diversity of ecosystems, habitats and species. The genetic variety, however, is not surveyed.

Long-term data series on the development of bio-diversity in floodplains are of particular value and thus, they are examined thoroughly. But also the spatial components, and thus, the spatial spread of bio-diversity in floodplains are examined.

Goal of the project is to disclose spatial transitions and the development of bio-diversity over time within floodplains and to identify the elements responsible for these changes, so they can be correlated with the observed directions of development. Therefrom result the possibility to identify beneficial and harmful factors of floodplain diversity and set a course of action accordingly.
