Sascha Gentes.

Technical, economical, social and political consequences of decommissioning of nuclear facilities at regional and local level (FoRK)

The German directive of phasing out nuclear energy will occupy Germany in the coming decades. Beyond it, the up to now employed companies in the nuclear power plants, their employees, the population and the municipality should now prepare themselves to deal with a new situation after shut-down of nuclear power plants.
The Institute of Technology and Management for Decommissioning of Nuclear Facilities sees the necessity to investigate both the exogenous and endogenous factors which could be influenced by the decommissioning of the nuclear power plants. As a result a cause-effect -relations model has to be developed concerning both the local and regional effects and to derive measures.

Goals of the research project
The aim of the research project is the investigation of technical, economical, social and political consequences of the decommissioning of nuclear facilities at regional and local level.
To grasp different legislations at state level, the research team will investigate two federal states, namely the state of Baden Württemberg and state of Hessen especially in the following regional:
In the State of Baden Württemberg, City of Karlsruhe, Community of Neckarwestheim, Obrigheim and Philippsburg. In the State of Hessen, Community of Biblis.
With this research project, a model for the future decommissioning should be developed, which allows a forecast for economical and social consequences of decommissioning of nuclear power plants under certain conditions for the population and industry.

The research project (FoRK) is a cooperation between Institute for Geography and Geoecology, Chair of Human Geography, led by Prof. Dr. Caroline Kramer and Institute for Technology and Management for Construction, Chair of Technology and Management for the Decommissioning of Nuclear Facilities led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sascha Gentes.
