In this F&E-project, enterprises on nature-compatible flood control, ecologically optimized use of hydropower and the protection of floodplains with national significance were selected, analyzed and documented for Germany and adjacent countries. The goal was to provide easily accessible information on successfully executed projects for future projects and all those who take an interest in the matter. Based on the EU river catchments on German territory, research was done on previously executed as well as currently planned enterprises. Using the collected data as a basis, a subject-specific assessment followed (hydrological / hydraulic, nature conservation, socio-economic / acceptance, cost-benefit aspects). Finally, specific “best-practice” projects were selected and presented compendiously. These presentations offer a clear overview on information on exemplary enterprises, and serve to make current, positive practical experiences available for those who are interested, particularly regarding future projects. The results of this project was released in the publication series “Naturschutz und Biologische Vielfalt” (nature conversation and biological diversity), booklet 112.
